The city of Newark, Delaware has had a long and storied past, including an economy that has been entwined with manufacturing and higher education. Being close to major roads and rail lines, and today Interstate 95, has helped Newark prosper as a manufacturing hub. Although as some factories have closed, the University of Delaware has remained. Downtown Newark is, in fact, the archetypal college town. Shops sell hip and trendy merchandise and fashions. Bars and pubs offer entertainment and live music. There are also plenty of other businesses, services, and eateries that serve the students, faculty, staff, and anyone else who wants to check out this bustling small city.

Newark, Delaware is located in New Castle County in northern Delaware just off of Interstate 95 right on the Maryland border. Newark is about 45 miles away from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and 57 miles away from Baltimore, Maryland. Newark has a train station and is served by Amtrak's Northeast Regional trains and the SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line Regional Rail trains. Most of the businesses in downtown Newark are on Main Street just east of the University of Delaware. If you set your GPS for the intersection of Main Street and Chapel Street, that will put you in the heart of town. Other nearby Main Street communities include North East and Chesapeake City, both in Maryland.

This is a view looking west at several brick houses that have since been converted to businesses. One interesting fact about Newark, Delaware is that unlike Newark, New Jersey, Newark Delaware has a different pronunciation. Whereas the city in New Jersey is pronounced "NEW-work" the city in Delaware is pronounced "new-ARK.".
